The west end
Hummersknott, Mowden and Blackwell are full of substantial 1930s and Edwardian houses with long gardens and mature trees. Gardens can be shady, and many have an old patio or a tired deck from years ago. Decks here often sit partway down the garden to catch the sun.
West Park
Newer homes on the site of the old hospital grounds, with tidy, mostly flat gardens and a lot of families. Decks the width of the house are popular, with the lawn kept clear for play.
North Darlington
Harrowgate Hill and Whinfield have a mix of 1950s to 1990s houses, many with kitchens raised above the garden. Raised decks with safe steps are common here.
Hurworth, Hurworth Place and Croft-on-Tees
Villages along the Tees with old houses, big gardens and plenty of character. Hardwood or warm-brown composite suits the brick and stone. Some gardens run down towards the river, so we pay attention to levels and drainage.
Middleton St George
A large village near Teesside Airport with many family homes from the last few decades. Flat lawns, small patios and room to expand.
Heighington and Gainford
Stone cottages, farmhouses and larger village houses, often with walled gardens or uneven ground. Timber decks look at home here.
